My son attends SLAM and I am so impressed with the school. The administration, counselors, coaches, and teachers all genuinely care for their students and will do everything in their power to encourage them and help them achieve success is all areas. They dedicate time and effort into the curriculum and are always making changes to fit the needs of their students. The athletic program is amazing and well managed by the director. The football coaches and program as a whole has made such an impact on my son’s life. My compliments and gratitude goes to all the staff at this school, you should be recognized for the positive impact you have on all your students. Thank you for your hard work and dedication!

This school has really gone downhill. Some teachers are alright, but most are very inconsistent with how they run their classrooms. With the newer teachers starting, it seems as they're too emotional for the job. The food is also inconsistent, some days it's alright, but most it's just horrible. I've spoken with several that have caught stomach bugs from it. Overall, this school has become a place where student can only look forward to socializing with friends.

As I continue to be a student at Slam NV, I have nearly more praises than complaints.

Now I might admit I have been at very little schools, staying at a much cozier smaller school, so my mindset as to what a good school is is very much biased.

At Slam, one of my favorite things is the spread of diversity there. We as students enjoy celebrating each other and our society as a whole. Students are very open-minded and forgiving. We do have a lot of different people at slam, but we in all get along very well.

Teachers are amazing. They have special ways of teaching that do help lots of students, and their differences. A lot of students do complain about teachers, yes. But that's to be expected at every school and can't necessarily be taken away in any case. at the last quarter, we have been pushed to our limits to see what we'll be doing for the next year. As it is stressing for a lot of people, I was still able to find joy in the envoirment provided.

As first generation students, we are still trying to figure out what we'll be doing for the next several years so as students complain about certain things, it should be taken in to consideration for hopes of fixing, but shouldn't be taken as a hit to the school in all.

As for my complaints, well although I do come from a small school that is nearly square shaped in all it's glory, I find this three story school much crowded. Mind I forgotten the detail that my older school had as much students here at slam (500-550) and was only one story, yet I still find myself being pushed into a crowd of people. Also the lack of a library really has me sad. I truly did expect a large area where I would be able to read and study as other students do. The cafeteria was also a surprise, for how small it was.

The smaller details of the school though have really given me this sort of forgiveness as to what it lacks. The large windows from floor to ceiling, the turf, the windows all around in one wall as well as glass doors near the cafeteria, the natrual light and green accent walls. I could go on.

The staff and administration is amazing as well. They're very helpful and sweet. Most anyways. A lot of teachers are young too, which gives this lively aura throughout the building.

All in all, Slam Nevada is an amazing, competitive charter school and I will be returning next year and hopefully for years to come.

I would not even give this school a star. If you are even thinking of sending your child to this school DO NOT! Slam Academy is a disgrace to the charter schools in the Las Vegas valley. SLAM is the Behavior charter school. If you get kicked out of any other school for any reason come to SLAM they will let you right in. They will lie to get you into the school. There are some good people/teachers at the school but the administration is the WORST. My son was told he would have to take health in the summer as it did not fit in his schedule and his parents would have to pay for it, but when another counselor looked into his schedule it only took moving one class. UNBELIEVABLE!! Any CCSD school is run better then SLAM Academy. They cover up and hide information from the parents. 95% of communication comes from the kids not the school as the school is to busy trying to cover up anything negative for the school. They say they are a sports school but the wrestling coach is a felon, the basketball program is on the third coach just this year, only 50% of the teachers even have teaching credentials (if that) and the principal of the school has no control of the school at ALL and has no backbone. If you are even considering sending your kids to this school please reach-out to me and I will let my kids tell you the real story of the school. I can't apologize to my kids enough for sending them to the school for the last 2 years. Don't make the same mistake I did and STAY AWAY!!

If I could leave no stars I would. This school doesn't care about the kids with disabilities, they don't follow IEPs, they just suspend or rpc over behaviors related directly to their disabilities. They make excuses for everything, and have spiteful staff. The only ones who were decent were Mr. Mayville and the principal. Sorry excuse of a school honestly. Don't send your kids here, they will just be ignored or sent home constantly.

The beginning of the school year was great! There was a lot of communication from the school and teachers. I loved the fact that grades were important otherwise our child wouldn't be able to play sports.

Towards the middle of the school year I saw less communication from teachers and was constantly requesting feedback. My daughter was in Ms. Stewart's math class and failed both semesters and now has to attend Summer school. My daughter also advised that Ms. Stewart was a bully and allowed other children in the class to make fun of her because of her grade. This made her self esteem drop and she was motivated to try. Ms. Stewart offered zero help when I reached out to her for assistance or if my daughter went to her class after school to get help with homework problems or things that she did not understand Ms. Stewart was too busy.

There were only two teachers out of six teachers that gave constant feedback on grades and what students were working on through Google classroom, but nothing on the things she needed to improve on. Not very consistent in that area.

The office staff is not very friendly. As soon as you walk in the office all three of them look at you like you're an alien. There's no smile or "how can I help you" just terrible customer service. They try to rush you out of the office as if what you need to ask is not important.

Hopefully that is something that can be worked on during the summer. I plan to come back and try another year since it was the first year and maybe the majority of the Kinks will be worked out or even better gone.

On another note the principal was great and very active. He listened to issues or concerns and had solutions right away. The volleyball team was also undefeated. I'm ready for the school itself to step up and get a more involved math teacher for 7th and 8th grades next year. That is not a bully.

Go up
