No consideration given for seniors on a fixed income. Rents are increased yearly and are extreme. Unit windows with dry rot needed to be replaced but were not. Building’s washing facilities disgusting. Sent laundry out instead. Basement flooding. Not safe to use basement storage bin. Building open to public so anyone can walk in. Was forced to change lock on unit door. Before roof was repaired, experienced ceiling leakage. This among other problems……

It’s November 28 and the units have no heat. The cheap mounted wall units produce no heat and the landlord refuses to turn in the radiator until the temperature outside is 20F or lower. Average unit temperature is 55F. City of highland park and the mayors office have been alerted and are investigating. Please stay away from this building.

I do not recommend renting here at all. (Note: I rented from Hillco and lived at the 1660 Green Bay Rd Highland Park building.) Make sure to get all agreements in writing, and save your copies of the lease, move-out form, and security deposit receipt. They did not mail my security deposit back to me until after 50 days since moving out and only once I notified them that I was sending a formal deposit demand letter.

Maintenance requests were not taken seriously as well.
One day we came home from work and my apartment smelled so heavily of gas that we had to call the fire department. They turned off the gas and said the issue was our stove, it was not working right and the pilot light went out. The fireman said to have maintenance service the stove before turning on the gas again, and not to simply relight the pilot. After communicating this with maintenance and Larry Hillman the building manager, they refused to service the stove and just turned the gas back on and relit the pilot light, even though we told them the fire department said not to.

Another time our bathroom ceiling started leaking water pretty seriously, flooding our bath room and ruining many of our toiletries. I immediately called maintenance and put in an emergency request but it took them 3 days before they came and to look at the leak, and that was with me calling every few hours each day. Our bathroom was unusable during this time and we had to go to elsewhere just to use the bathroom and to shower for three days!

I don't really write reviews but I wanted to warn anyone who is considering renting through Hillco, it was a very bad experience. It's cheap for the area but it's really not worth it.

Loudest apartments I’ve ever lived in, dumpsters overflowing so that trash is blowing around the parking lot, which has the smallest spaces and worst use of the available parking space. Management couldn’t be less concerned about the issues, and will never work with you.
